Gate Openers Automatic

Follow these simple safety tips and ensure that your gate openers are working properly. Make sure to follow these easy steps to ensure secure gate openers. Automatic systems are intricate and contain multiple parts that if not operated correctly, can prove to be extremely hazardous.

• Make sure to stand away from motorized swinging and sliding gates. When these automated gates open and close, stand clear of the gate. Issues like entrapment are grounds for injury and even death.

• Validate the “UL” or “ETL” mark. These marks categorize products that have passed thorough UL 325 Standards for Safety. These marks are acknowledged nationally, and are also displayed on gate openers. Automatic equipment should also contain the mark.

• Refrain from extending your limbs through a motorized gate in order to operate gate opener access controls. The UL Safety Standards prohibit controls from being situated within gate or gate opener ranges.

• Install gate controls away from the gate or gate opener. Controls must be at least 10 feet away from a gate. If a gate operator permits a person to access the gate to operate the control, shut down power and call a professional gate installer to move the control.

• Children are never to play with automated gates. Teach children to stay away from automated gates.

• Gate openers produced after March 2000 include a reversing feature, and should be installed with a secondary entrapment prevention device such as the photo eyes or reversing edges. These sensitive systems detect objects and can prevent injuries. If your gate opener doesn’t have this feature, it is time to replace your gate operator.

• Never install automatic gate yourself. This is not an easy project to undertake. Hire a professional gate installer. Allow professional installers to show you how your safety systems function.

• ASTM F2200 is a guide that prompts automatic gate opener owner to prevent exposed roller in sliding gates. Exposed rollers allow hands and feet to get caught between a roller and the gate. Make sure that you have all covers and guards to protect these type of pinch points. Please contact a professional gate operator installer to inspect your automated gate system.
